Friendship Bracelets and the Longing to Belong

By: Sharon Cooper

Friendship bracelets are back! Cheap, colourful beads, some with letters, all tied with elastic string, has flooded society once again.

And this time, it’s not just the kids!

Thanks to Taylor Swift, adults who grew up in the 1990s are revisiting the phenomenon of making friendship bracelets.

Today, they have become a symbol of belonging.

It is reported that the Eras tour covers 146 dates on five continents; with an estimated audience of 70,000 at each, over 10 million people will have gone to see Taylor live by the end of 2024!

That’s a lot of friendship bracelets made and swapped!

We all long to belong.

Two thousand years ago, God gave the world His son Jesus, bringing good news of salvation to all. This good news is share by millions worldwide, each story of faith a miracle in itself.

Perhaps you have your own story of faith which you could share with someone today — and renew that sense of belonging.
